Fortron® PPS Proven Production Performance In Critical Aircraft Structures
FortronPPS, a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material, has a history of outstanding performance in aircraft and aerospace components. Fortron PPS is perfectly suited for parts that have to withstand the high mechanical and thermal requirements typical for aircraft. Performance characteristics include:
- Meets Flame, Smoke and Toxicity requirements for aircraft interior applications
- Continuous use temperatures up to 240°C, short-term up to 270°C
- High melting range between 280°C - 290°C
- Offers an ideal low-cost alternative to conventional materials; easy to process
- Excellent resistance to chemicals, oils and fluids. No known solvent up to 200°C
- High hardness and stiffness
- Extremely low creep behavior
- Provides weight reduction combined with high stability, resulting in economic aircraft
Green Solution for Aerospace Manufacturing
Thermoplastic composites deliver both cost savings and a green solution versus thermosets. And Fortron PPS fiber-reinforced composites can cut the weight of components by up to 50% compared with metal or light alloy parts, while still meeting all the engineering criteria for aircraft manufacture.
