Fortron PPS
Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is often chosen over metals and thermosets, it’s a dimensionally stable, hard and rigid polymer that withstands temperatures to 200°C. It has excellent chemical, creep and moisture resistance and is flame retardant.
Product Properties
- Service temperature up to +240 °C
- Very good resistance to chemicals and solvents
- Very hard and rigid
- Very low moisture absorption
- Inherently flame retardant (UL 94 V-0, some grades 5VA)
- Suitable for lead-free soldering
- Excellent creep resistance even at elevated temperatures
Fortron Linear PPS Offers Superior Properties vs. Branched and Semi-Linear PPS
- Toughness
- Outperforms semi-linear by 10−30%, branched by 25−45%
- Strength
- Especially at knit lines – beats semi-linear by 20−30% and branched by 85−170%
- Colorability (Available in a variety of standard colors; branched only available in brown and black. Note - cannot “color-match”. Light colors will darken with heat / light exposure; dark colors lose gloss –not ideal for “appearance” parts.
- Processing Consistency
- More consistent viscosity vs. branched or semi-linear
- Broader viscosity range
- Wider available product offerings for blow-molding / extrusion
