Packaging
Packaging must serve many purposes, and when all requirements have been met, it must be disposable with the lowest possible impact on the environment.
The first function of packaging is to protect the contents of the package until protection is no longer needed. Often packaging must be able to display the contents or to draw attention to itself and its content. And, since the packaging will be disposed of after use, or at best recycled, it must have the lowest cost consistent with serving its intended purpose(s).
Typically, a user will discard ,casually, high performance packaging without realizing how complex it is or how much technology has gone into it. To provide required properties in a cost-effective way for such technical packaging, Ticona is a key supplier of high performance packaging resins that fit the needs of packaging manufacturers.
Providing structure and physical protection, serving as a barrier to moisture and/or oxygen, screening out light, and insulating against thermal transients are all-important protective functions. Not only is affirmative protection required, damage due to the packaging also must be avoided. The packaging cannot contaminate, discolor, shade or otherwise adversely affect its contents.
