Dear Readers,

The European Patent Office received more applications this past year then ever before. Thats a good thing, because ideas renew our outlook and keep us in motion. And things at Ticona are moving, too: The upcoming relocation of our production facilities from Kelsterbach to the Höchst Industrial Park in Frankfurt is becoming reality and our high performance polymers are continuously inspiring new initiatives for a clean environment.

Green Electronics is one good example of this. Even before new regulations like RoHS and WEEE came into force, we supplied our partners in the electrical and electronics industry with products that were both safe and environmentally sound. That perspective pays off in the long term because consumers are growing increasingly aware of environmental concerns. Companies that have relied on halogen-free and bromine-free materials like the liquid crystal polymer Vectra^® LCP from an early stage clearly have a significant competitive edge when it comes to the high profile topic of sustainability.

Environmental protection and sustainability are also key issues in the automotive industry: Every gram of weight saved reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. As a consequence more and more metals are being replaced by high performance polymers and designers continue to focus on the development of lightweight structures. The benefits are evident, both at the scales and in the development of innovative technologies such as AdBlue^® for the reduction of diesel exhaust emissions.

Moreover, applications from the sports and household segments should also inspire your new ideas and maybe even lead to the next joint patentable developments.
