Established in 1945, Ticona's Bishop site in Texas was the first production facility operated by the Celanese Chemical Company. Located 35 miles from Corpus Christi, the Bishop site is one of the larger manufacturing sites for Ticona and Celanese situated on 1,400 acres.
Ticona manufactures Celcon® acetal copolymer (POM) at the Bishop site. In July 2002, a new plant came online in Bishop to manufacture GUR® ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE), doubling the company's GUR capacity in North America. Other plants on the Bishop site produce chemical products for Celanese Chemicals, the chemicals business of Celanese AG. They include methanol, formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, 1,3-butylene glycol, pentaerythritol, trimethylolpropane, formcels, and sodium formate.
