The utility and versatility of plastics have ensured their use in almost every facet of industry. For engineering resins in general, this means not only metal replacement applications but also those where the intrinsic properties of the plastic material meet a specific need - for example, in electrical insulation. In industrial applications, end users look for performance, consistency and durability. For those customers, Ticona’s “industrial strength” engineering plastics will provide the best fit to their needs.

“Best fit” is not just a slogan at Ticona. Instead, it represents our approach to meeting customer requirements. Beginning with a comprehensive definition of the application, we match required performance parameters against the capabilities of our products to identify the best candidate. If none of our existing products meet a customer’s needs, we explore the possibilities of creating new formulations. If we do not see a good fit with anything in our product line, we tell the customer. We have found that fluid engineering and material handling are two important areas in the industrial market segment where our engineering plastics provide significant customer value.

Some examples of the high-performance, high-durability parts resulting from this approach include conveyor belt components made from Celcon® or Hostaform® acetal copolymers; oilfield pump housings made from Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS); and chemical pump housings made from GUR® ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE).

As well as the acetal copolymers, GUR UHMWPE is used in conveyor systems because of its outstanding friction and wear characteristics. Also in this area, Vandar® polyester alloy is used as a linkage between conveyor elements, providing the right combination of strength, toughness and flexibility. The use of these three materials in this application demonstrates Ticona’s commitment to providing our customers with “best fit” material solutions for industrial applications.
