GHR® HMW-PE and VHMW-PE GUR®
UHMW-PE and Hostalloy® UHMW-PE
The breadth of properties provided by the full range of GUR® ultra-high
molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) products in powder and pellet form results in their specification
in a wide and diverse range of applications. Ticona’s GUR UHMW-PE has distinctive combination of properties
which include:
- Excellent wear resistance
- Extremely high notched impact strength
- Very good sliding quality
- Low friction loss values
- Outstanding low temperature properties
- High energy absorption at high stress rates
- Excellent chemical resistance
- High resistance against stress cracking
- Very good noise reduction
- Negligible water absorption
- Biocompatibility
- Lightweight (0.930 g/cm3)
- FDA, USDA, 3A and NSF compliant grades
GUR
UHMW-PE is commonly processed by compression molding and ram extrusion into semi-forms or profiles,
or net parts formed through direct compression molding. Examples of typical applications using
GUR UHMW-PE include machine construction components subject to high abrasion, chemical industries seals
and silo linings, mining and coal processing conveyor trough linings, electrical insulators, and for
leisure, ski and snowboard surfaces and snow mobile components.
GUR UHMW-PE can be gel processed for such applications as battery
separators, synthetic paper or for high strength fiber applications. GUR UHMW-PE is also used as the
articulating bearing surface for most orthopedic surgical implants.
GHR® high and very high molecular weight polyethylene (HMW-PE
and VHMW-PE) resins, in powder form are commonly processed by compression molding into semi-forms or
profiles. Typical applications include food handling cutting boards and ortheses.
