Innovation

Beginning with cellulose nitrate (Celluloid) more than 130 years ago and continuing through cellulose acetate in the early years of last century up to the engineering resins of the present day, Ticona has been a leader in materials innovation. Among the materials introduced to the plastics marketplace by Ticona are Celcon®  and Hostaform® acetal copolymers, Celanex® polybutylene terephthalate and Vectra® liquid crystal polymers (LCP).

But it’s not only in materials that Ticona has been an innovator – cooperative application development with our customers has recently led to such new firsts as the use of Fortron® linear polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composites in functional aerospace components.

Right now, Ticona’s materials are playing a role in the development of a new, high performance, high temperature and light weight fuel cell based on a new membrane made from Celanese polybenzimidazole (PBI) polymer.

Ticona engineering polymers for fuel cell stack components include Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) and Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). These polymers are good choices because of their temperature capability, chemical resistance and, most important, the ability to be loaded with enough graphite to deliver the necessary high conductivity. Isn’t it time to see how Ticona can help you innovate?
