Fuel Systems
Only a few polymers can withstand permanent contact with the diverse and increasingly aggressive automotive fuels used today and the increasing temperatures encountered in engine compartments. That is why special grades of Hostaform® and Celcon® acetal copolymer (POM) and Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) are the preferred materials for modern fuel systems.
Not only do these products have excellent long-term resistance to gasoline, diesel and methanol or ethanol-based fuels, they are also able to withstand temperatures of more than 100°C.(212° F) Ticona offers products that comply with environmental protection requirements for the reduction of evaporative emissions. Furthermore, Ticona offers products that satisfy the requirements of electrical conductivity necessary for certain applications.
The typical applications in fuel systems of Ticona’s engineering polymers are extremely versatile. They include components in fuel caps, fuel filler necks, fuel sender units (e.g. flanges or swirl pot), lifetime filter, valves, fuel pumps, and fuel rails, among many others.
Ticona also provides customers with intensive technical support for development and production. In addition, Ticona regularly conducts research projects (for example, on the affects of alternative fuels) and develops product modifications to meet the increasing demands of a continuously changing market.
