Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

Although there are places where one may not need such services, it’s hard to imagine a modern building without adequate heating, ventilation, or air-conditioning. Where you find these services, you also find Ticona’s engineering plastics. First, there are , of course, the typical applications for high performance insulating plastics such as Celanex® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) and Fortron® linear polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) in electrical switching, high temperature blower housings, and control equipment. With these products, the specific material chosen will depend on the temperature, chemical environment and part design of the application. The use of Hostaform® or Celcon® acetal copolymers (POM) in taps, valves, fittings and gas and water meter components is also well established.

Beyond these general, and by now traditional, applications, Ticona’s expertise with engineering plastics enables development of special materials that are used for the extra-demanding applications that arise from new systems development. Consider, for example, the air chiller fan made from Celstran® long-fiber reinforced thermoplastic (LFRT) that withstands 11,400 revolutions per minute to deliver improved cooling and quieter operation, or the gas furnace components made from a mineral/glass reinforced grade of Fortron PPS specially designed for isotropic shrinkage that out-cycled competitive materials by more than 25%.

For high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration for clean room operations, Ticona offers GUR® ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE). This material can be sintered to form highly porous, self-supporting filter elements, offering high performance and long life.
