GUR® UHMW-PE Injection Molding Grades

Ticona offers two grades of very-high and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) in pellet form for injection molding, which are excellent candidates for certain types of applications and processing methods.

The extremely high molecular weight of these products allows them to be used where lower molecular weight HDPE grades are unsuitable. The extraordinary combination of properties include:

  • Very good wear resistance
  • High notched impact strength
  • Very good sliding quality
  • Low friction loss values
  • High energy absorption at high stress rates
  • Very good chemical resistance against acids, bases and aggressive gases
  • High resistance against stress cracking
  • Very good noise reduction
  • Biocompatibility
  • Lightweight (specific gravity of 0.940)
  • FDA and USDA certified grades

Available Grades are:

  • Hostalloy® UHMW-PE 731-- Hostalloy 731 UHMW-PE is a linear polyolefin, melt-processible resin with a molecular weight exceeding most high molecular weight, high-density polyethylene (HMW-HDPE) resins. The very high molecular weight of this resin yields several outstanding properties including very good abrasion resistance and impact strength. This resin is particularly suitable for injection molding or for standard extrusion operations. Excellent properties also include a low coefficient of friction that results in self-lubricating, non-stick surfaces after processing.

  • GUR® UHMW-PE 5113-- GUR 5113 UHMW-PE is a linear polyolefin resin with a molecular weight more than 10 times that of high molecular weight, high density polyethylene (HMW-HDPE) resins. The extremely high molecular weight of this resin (approx. 3.0 MM g/mol) yields several extraordinary properties including superior abrasion resistance and impact strength. This resin is suitable for injection molding. Outstanding properties also include a low coefficient of friction that results in self-lubricating, non-stick surfaces after processing.

Potential Applications:

  • Material Handling-oil drilling sucker rod guides, conveyor flights and chain wear pads, mail handling and sorting deflectors
  • Appliance—washing machine/dryer suspension enclosures, dishwasher spray nozzle bearing, freezer sliding door guides, refrigerator door stops, belt sander idler pulleys
  • Automotive and transportation-seat belt guides, window guides, seat adjustment elements, trunk lid catch, rail air brake cylinder seal
  • Machine Construction-components subject to high abrasion like rollers, gear wheels, bearings, bushings, chain tighteners
  • Chemical Industries-pump impellers, gate valves
  • Miscellaneous-elevator gibs, man lift bearings, trash can wear pad, septic cleanouts, vending machine guide rails, garage door guides
  • Sports and Recreational- tripod leg guides, cable guides, snowboard bindings, snowmobile parts, treadmill pulleys
