Extrusion
While engineering resins are mostly used in molding processes, there are numerous extrusion applications for these materials. In these applications, the polymer is plasticated in an extruder and then formed into a variety of end products, including sheet and film, stock shapes and profiles, monofilament and netting. Extrusion is also an important element in processes such as extrusion coating and in the production of many different kinds of fiber products including multicomponent fibers, melt blowns and spunbonds.
Ticona’s engineering resins are used in many different extrusion processes, for some of which special grades have been developed. Ram extrusion, which has been described as continuous compression molding sintering, is an important technique for processing GUR® ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene.
Customers can rely on Ticona for processing assistance at extrusion trials, troubleshooting assistance, tooling recommendations, and materials training. Processing assistance must be requested through your account manager.
