Ticona’s engineering polymers and technical know-how help our customers achieve innovative solutions in automotive electrical and electronic components and systems that make automotive driving safer and more comfortable. It all began with the success of our Celanex® PBT in connectors. Today’s cars contain a multitude of electric and electronic functions to make them safer, more economical and comfortable. The former boundaries between electronics, software and mechanics have intermingled and therefore created the new and highly innovative area of mechatronics. Modern mechatronic systems would not be possible, neither economically, nor technologically, without engineering thermoplastics (and high performance polymers).

Ticona has the experience and products to help create innovative mechatronic solutions. Hostaform® and Celcon® POM, Celanex PBT, Impet® PET, Vandar® Polyester-Blends, Riteflex® COPE, Vectra® LCP, Fortron® PPS, and Celstran® LFRT are successfully implemented in applications in ignition systems, electronic housings, connectors, sensors, just to name a few. Our products fulfill high demands on chemical, electrical and thermal resistance, as well as low warp, heat shock and hydrolysis resistance, as regulated (e.g. in the USCAR norm). Ticona’s engineering polymers are used to protect highly sensitive safety electronics devices (e.g. ABS or airbag sensors) to make sure that seat belt tensioners, brakes, airbags, etc. function properly in the event of an accident. Also, they enable complex degrees of integration and perform at temperatures up to 340° C (644° F) and are thereby excellent candidates for mechatronic applications in automobiles.

Modifications, such as fiber reinforcement (Celstran LFRT), tribological additives and magnetic ferrites, make it possible to adapt engineering polymers to the requirements of individual applications. Such modifications enable the adaptation of mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic, EMI/RFI shielding and influence thermal properties, wear and abrasion.

Our engineering and high performance polymers also have the technical capacity to perform in future developments, such as drive-by-wire, ISAD, miniaturization of electronics components and 42-volt systems.
