Building and Construction

In the context of building and construction, one typically thinks of commodity plastics, yet this segment calls on the superior properties of Ticona’s engineering resins in unexpected ways. In the actual building, there are applications where wood is replaced by linear extrusions - so-called lineals. These applications include window frames, doorframes, deck railings and the like, and can be well served by vinyl-clad linear extrusions of Celstran® long- fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFRT). In one production example, a maintenance-free ten-foot (three-meter) deck railing is made from Celstran LFRT. In this application, the structure is an extrusion of 40% glass-reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) that is co-extrusion clad with polyvinyl chloride.

Inside buildings, other applications for Ticona’s engineering resins may be found, like high impact wall sockets made from flame-retarded Celanex® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), drapery and blind hardware of Celcon®/Hostaform® acetal copolymer (POM) and furniture components made from Vandar® polyester blends and alloys.
